Policeman killed as weapon goes off

A head constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Visakhapatnam division, died on the spot when a weapon which was being loaded and checked by another constable, went off accidentally.

A constable was injured in the accident.

K.C. Pradhan, an RPF constable, after loading the magazine clip in his 9 mm pistol, was reportedly checking its functioning when it accidentally went off. Head constable Dharmana Musalaiah (47) was right in front, took the hit.

The bullet penetrated the right side of his stomach and after exiting from his back hit another constable, S. Mallikarjuna Rao (46).

While Musalaiah died on the spot, Mallikarjuna Rao was admitted to a corporate hospital.

An emergency surgery had to be performed to remove bullet that was embedded very close to his vertebrae. He is said to be out of danger.

RPF Divisional Commissioner Sheriff told the media that a board of inquiry was set up to go into the case.

Meanwhile, K.C. Pradhan was taken into custody by the Two Town Police for further investigation.

According to ACP (East) R. Ramana, there appears to be an element of negligence on part of the constable and a case was filed under IPC Section 304 A.
