Actor Bhavana got married to Kannada Producer Naveen in a ceremony attended by close relatives and friends at Thiruvambadi Temple here on Monday morning. The ceremony was followed by lunch and reception at Jawahar Convention Centre in the city. Her close family members and friends from the film industry including Ramya Nambeeshan and Manju Warrier attended the function. Another reception will be held at Lulu Convention Centre in the evening.

India was on Monday ranked at the 62nd place among emerging economies on an Inclusive Development Index, much below China’s 26th position and Pakistan’s 47th. Norway remains the world’s most inclusive advanced economy, while Lithuania again tops the list of emerging economies, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said while releasing the yearly index in Davos before the start of its annual meeting, to be attended by several world leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Catalonia's Parliament on Monday proposed Carles Puigdemont as its candidate for regional leader, dealing a blow to Central government efforts to derail an independence movement that has plunged Spain into crisis. As Mr. Puigdemont was named as the sole candidate for a position he was fired from in October, Spain's Supreme Court rejected a request from the state prosecutor to reactivate a European arrest warrant to detain him in Copenhagen. Mr. Puigdemont, who fled to Brussels in October after Madrid sacked him for spearheading a secessionist drive that culminated in a unilateral declaration of independence, was in Denmark on Monday on his first trip away from Belgium in three months of self-imposed exile.

The 21-year-old Chung, ranked 58th in the world, proved an immovable object, absorbing everything the former world number one could throw at him and returning it with interest.

The editor of a left-wing Turkish Cypriot newspaper says his publication won't be silenced in its criticism of Turkey's policies in the breakaway north of ethnically split Cyprus after a mob smashed window panes and hurled stones and eggs at its offices. Sener Levent told The Associated Press that today's attack was prompted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who urged supporters to "answer" Afrika newspaper for suggesting that Turkey's military offensive into Syria against an enclave controlled by a US-backed Syrian Kurdish militia was a bid to occupy that country's territory.

The Janata Dal (Secular) is open to have an alliance with the Left parties in the coming Assembly elections in the State, its national president H.D. Deve Gowda said here on Monday. The party will contest from all 224 constituencies. Mr. Gowda said that the party would make all efforts to win at least one seat in all districts to ensure that it has representation in the Assembly from all the districts. The candidates would be finalised by the end of February.

Hundreds of Tokyo residents scrambled for cover on Monday in the Japanese capital’s first evacuation drill for a military attack since World War II, amid ongoing tensions over North Korea’s nuclear programme. A loudspeaker blared out a terrifying warning at the drill, held in a Tokyo amusement park: “We have information that a missile launch has occurred. Please evacuate calmly inside a building or underground.”

The Women's March against US President Donald Trump in several cities across the USA continued for a second day. Hundreds of women gathered at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas holding posters condemning Mr Trump's comments on women's rights, and encouraging more women to run for office.
