The 59th All-India Railway Badminton Championships 2010-11, organised by the South Western Railway Sports Association (SWRSA), will begin at the District Indoor Stadium here on Saturday.
Speaking to the presspersons here on Friday, SWRSA general secretary S.K. Gupta and senior vice-president U. Krishnamurthy said 19 teams in the men's category, including reigning champions South Central Railway and runner-up South Western Railway, would vie for the top honours.
Women's category
Eight teams would compete in the women's category, including last year's winners Northern Railway and runner-up Central Railway. Competitions would be held in team championship in both men and women categories as well as singles and doubles for men, women and veterans.
T. Mukundan and Malvinder Singh Dhillon from New Delhi will be the observers, while Rajiv Mehta and Sharad Varma will be the chief referee and deputy chief referee, respectively.
Team event finals are scheduled for Monday evening, while the finals of all individual events will commence at 4 p.m. on the concluding day. General Manager, South Western Railway, Kuldeep Chaturvedi would inaugurate the event on Saturday, they said.
