Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Monday lauded the service of volunteers of National Service Scheme and suggested that they build a vibrant society by serving the nation.
Mr. Bhardwaj, who presented the NSS State Awards for 2010-11, instructed the students to fulfil Chacha Nehru's tasks.
The political scene in India has changed after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru. However, several tasks of Nehru are yet to be completed. Every student has to take up “national service”. It is mandatory in other countries, including the U.S., he said.
Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said, “NSS volunteers in Karnataka are rendering valuable service to society. They are creating awareness among the rural populace on various socio-economic issues.”
Over three lakh NSS volunteers have been involved in constructive activities.
