Scrutiny of video recordings of Assembly sought

Updated - August 02, 2011 06:07 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has written to Speaker G. Karthikeyan seeking scrutiny of the video recordings of the proceedings of the Assembly on July 20, in view of the allegation of impersonation in voting on the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly.

In a letter to the Speaker, the Chief Minister said that a date convenient also to Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, who had raised the allegation, should be fixed for examination of the recordings.

Mr. Chandy said that Mr. Achuthanandan and other leaders of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had repeatedly alleged that the ruling front had managed to pass the Bill in the Assembly through bogus voting. As the Opposition was creating doubts in the minds of the public, the facts of the issue needed to be brought to light.

The government took the allegation that a member of the House had voted for another member in the absence of the latter. This was alleged to have taken place in full view of the media and the public. However, the Opposition Leader had not clarified as to who had impersonated for whom despite a written request, Mr. Chandy said.
