The district administration here has set up an all-party vigilance council, Jagrata Samiti, to ensure safety of pilgrims and the vehicle carrying them, according to District Collector, P.Venugopal.

Mr Venugopal said leaders of various political parties, trade unions and social organisations met at the collectorate conference hall here on Tuesday to review the situation in the district in the backdrop of the stray incidents of stone-throwing reported from certain places against a few vehicles carrying Sabarimala pilgrims.

Mr Venugopal said a round-the-clock police control room has been opened in Pathanamthitta in the service of the Sabarimala pilgrims.

The Collector has directed the officials of the Police, Excise, Forest and Motor Vehicle departments to maintain proper co-ordination while patrolling on the Sabarimala roads with a view to ensure smooth passage for the Sabarimala pilgrims.
