The 40th batch of pilgrims comprising 158 people left for the Amarnath yatra from here on Monday amid tight security, police said.
As many as 90 men, 18 women and 50 seers left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp early this morning in a cavalcade of five vehicles for the 13,500-feet-high cave shrine situated in the Himalayas in south Kashmir.
With Monday’s batch, as many as 78,876 pilgrims have left Jammu in 40 batches for their onward journey to the holy cave.
Meanwhile, the sixth batch of 426 pilgrims left from Jammu on Monday for the Buddha Amarnath shrine in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district.
The batch comprising 264 men, 154 women and eight children left in a fleet of 11 vehicles from the base camp at Bhagwati Nagar around 0530 hours, police said.
