Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ob Thursday asked Centre not to impose its decisions on states on education and said that the latter should restrict itself to fund the States to formulate and implement its academic programmes.
“Education is a concurrent subject and the Centre should leave the formulation of policies in education sector to the states....it should restrict itself to funding the States’ initiatives to cater to educational aspirations of its people,” he told a function here.
Taking exception to the Centre’s decision to set up model schools at block level throughout the country, he said it was beyond his comprehension as to why it was persisting with taking policy measures in education sector and imposing them on the States.
Stating that the Centre’s earlier decisions to set up Navodaya and Kendriya vidyalyas were understandable to some extent, he said instead of model schools at block level, the state government could set up four high schools which would benefit more students.
