The Special Court, trying the disproportionate assets case against AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Saturday directed her to submit to the court the defects in any of the documents translated to English from Tamil by April 2.
B.M. Mallikarjunaiah, Judge of the Special Court and 36th Additional Sessions Court, passed the order on the directions of the Karnataka High Court, which on March 18 had directed the Special Court to refer all the defects in English translation, already pointed out by the accused, to the interpreter while setting a deadline of 15 days for the accused to produce such defects in any other translated documents.
The High Court's direction was on a petition filed by Ms. Jayalalithaa questioning an earlier decision of the Special Court agreeing to refer only some defects to the interpreter while keeping the other applications, pointing out defects and suggesting alternative words in depositions of witnesses, on record for considering them at the time of arguments on merit.
