DMK on Monday announced it would hold state-wide public meetings on April 15 to condemn various “anti-people” policies of the 11-month old Ms. Jayalalithaa government, including the power tariff revision.
This follows the April 9 protests announced across Tamil Nadu against last week’s power tariff hike.
A DMK statement here said the meetings would be held to condemn the ruling AIADMK on issues such as hike in bus fares, milk prices, power tariff, power shortage, law and order situation and ‘foisting’ of cases against its partymen.
The meetings would be held in all important towns and cities and the schedule would be released later, it added.
Meanwhile, DMK on Monday approached the state police chief seeking protection for the family of its senior leader and former Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, whose brother Ramajeyam was killed on March 29.
A written representation from DMK Treasurer M.K. Stalin to DGP K Ramanujam said Nehru had received threatening calls after the death of his brother and demanded that he and his family be given police protection.
