V. Prabakaran, who is allegedly involved in the murder of J. Sivakumar (24) of K. Pudukulam near Manamadurai, believed to be ‘honour killing,' surrendered before the First Judicial Magistrate here on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Sivakumar was murdered at Kattikkulam on Sunday, allegedly by Vijayan and two of his family members, for eloping with his daughter Megala (19).

It is said that Megala, who was married off to a person against her wishes a few weeks ago, went away with her friend Sivakumar to Pudukottai.

Vijayan brought them to Kattikkulam after convincing them that they would be allowed to live together. Later, he and the others attacked them with deadly weapons.

Sivakumar died on the spot and Megala has been admitted to hospital in Madurai.

A. Kadir, Executive Director, Evidence, said that a fact-finding team, which met various people in Pudukulam and Kattikkulam and made enquiries with the police, found that it was a case of ‘honour killing.'
