McDowell Mohun Bagan rode on the brilliance of Haitian recruit Sony Norde to return to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over new franchise Kalyani Bharat FC in the Hero I-League match here on Saturday.
Mohun Bagan remains unbeaten in the league and tallies 28 points from eight wins and four draws in 12 matches. Bharat FC remains on 11 points from 12 games.
The teams were evenly matched in the first half and it looked as if the visiting team would dominate. But Bagan turned the tables by producing a well-coordinated move in the second half to score twice in quick succession.
Off a fine forward pass from Anwar Ali, Norde showed his dribbling skills by going past two defenders to place home in the 62nd minute.
The goal galvanised the home players and they mounted repeated moves to break the Bharat FC defence.
The second opportunity came when Balwant Singh sent in a measured centre from the right to Norde who trapped and placed the ball past goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya with a deceptive back heel nine minutes later.
Thereafter, Mohun Bagan held the upper hand till the final whistle to run out a deserving victor.
The result:
McDowell Mohun Bagan 2 (Sony Norde 62, 71) bt Kalyani Bharat FC 0.
