JMM ties up with Trinamool in Bengal

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH. 3. Conjuring up images of giving a tough fight to the ruling Left Front in West Bengal in the coming Assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (Soren) today announced its seat-sharing agreement with the Trinamool Congress. The polls are scheduled for sometime in May.

Addressing a press conference here, the JMM(S) leader and MP, Mr. Shibu Soren, said his party had reached an understanding in at least 15 tribal-dominated constituencies.

``We will have seat adjustments in the tribal belt of Purulia, Bankura, Midnapore, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts,'' he said.

Defending his party's decision to enter into an alliance with the Trinamool Congress, Mr. Soren said: ``We believe that the interest of tribals in West Bengal will be safe in the Trinamool Congress leader, Ms. Mamata Banerjee's hands. The Left Front has always tried to scuttle our genuine demands.''

The poll alliance would not affect Ms. Banerjee's equations with the BJP. ``We have nothing to do with the BJP. We may even field candidates in West Bengal against the BJP. For us, only understanding is with Ms. Banerjee,'' Mr. Soren said.
