By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, MARCH 3. As countries draw closer together, it is
important to raise peoples' awareness of attitudes and values in
other societies, Ms. Marianne Cutler, Director, Science Across
the World, United Kingdom, said recently.
Participating in a workshop for science educators organised by
the British Council, Chennai, and the Tamil Nadu Science and
Technology Centre, she highlighted that by joining Science Across
the World, students could communicate about a range of globally
important issues with others world-wide.
It is an international education flagship programme for its
founding partners and provides a forum for students aged between
12 and 17 years to exchange facts and opinions with young people
in other countries through a unique series of compact resource
topics on environmental and social science issues in up to 18
languages, she said.
Dr. M. Sargurumoorthy, Executive Director, Tamil Nadu Science and
Technology Centre, said 32 science and language teachers from 16
schools participated. He extended an invitation to the British
Council to function as an extension centre to organise similar
programmes.
Mr. Kartar Singh, Deputy Director, British Council, spoke on the
impact of global warming on the bio-diversity. Dr. P.
Iyamperumal, Director, Periyar Science and Technology Centre,
