Draft resolutions for AICC plenary to be ready in a week

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, MARCH. 3. The General Secretary of the All-India Congress Committee (AICC), Ms. Ambika Soni, today said that the draft resolutions for the plenary session of the AICC to be held here, would be ready in about a week's time.

She told presspersons here that over 10,000 delegates would be coming down to Bangalore for the session. The Congress Working Committee meeting would be held one day prior to the plenary session.

After the plenary session, she said, she would chalk out her programme to visit various districts in the State and also the other States -- Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir -- of which she was in charge. She mentioned that the Congress President, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, had directed her team to visit districts and get firsthand knowledge of the work the party was doing.

The Congress, she said, was determined to play a constructive role in the running of the country and the party workers had to be fully alert to issues concerning the people at large. She mentioned how they had taken up the BALCO disinvestment issue and the farmers' problems for which the Government "did not have the answers".

Asked whether she would be looking at the nominations to various boards and corporations in Karnataka, she said it was the prerogative of the Chief Minister. Nevertheless, she said she would consult with the KPCC President and other office-bearers to ensure that those who had strived for the party and also had done some service to society were recognised.

She dismissed the trouble in Uttara Kannada District between party functionaries as a minor one. The KPCC President would sort it out. "I don't see any groupism in the party here. There is a lot of enthusiasm at the work done by the Government headed by Mr. S.M. Krishna."

Later, Mr. Vijaykumar Shetty, Suratkal MLA, said he had submitted a memorandum to her, apprising her of yesterday's incident in Uttara Kannada.
