Pondy BC panel member joins issue with Ramadoss

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 3. Former Chief Minister and member of the Pondicherry BC Commission, Mr. S. Ramssamy (Congress I) has joined issue with the PMK leader, Dr. S. Ramadoss claiming that BCs and MBCs in the Union Territory had not been given due concessions.

Describing as `meaningless and irrelevant' the criticism of Dr. Ramadoss that the Union Territory Administration was refusing to offer concessions and facilities for the BCs, Mr. Ramassamy said the Administration had issued a government order implementing the recommendations of the Commission.

The former Chief Minister said Dr. Ramadoss should refrain from airing views without understanding the work done by the Commission. Disputing the comment of the PMK leader that the Pondicherry Administration was inefficient, he said the government had done its work silently. He said the majority of people did not show any interest in the activities of the Commission but everyone expected it to knock on their doors and offer facilities.

None made any representation before the Commission in respect of the MBCs. The PMK state committee president, Mr. M. Manjini and the legislator of the party, Mr. S. Ramsingh too had not brought any complaints to the notice of the Commission, which suo motu sent summons to the members of the Social Justice Forum inviting them to its meetings.

He said the Administration had published the list of BCs as recommended by the Commission within its powers.

There are 135 castes included in this. The MBC list had been sent to the Centre for approval.
