Another Minister dropped from candidates list
KOLKATA, MARCH 3. West Bengal's ruling Left Front has dropped
another Minister from its candidate list for the coming Assembly
elections in the State and inducted four more new faces.
The Front had earlier dropped four Ministers on health grounds
and inducted 93 new faces on Sunday when it announced candidates
for 282 seats. The West Bengal Assembly has 294 seats. A
spokesman of the Front said the Janata Dal (Secular) had been
allotted three seats, while the Rashtriya Janata Dal had been
allotted two and Soshita Samaj Party one.
The spokesman said the Minister of State for Health and Family
Welfare, Mrs. Minati Ghosh (CPI-M) had been replaced by a new
face, Mr. Narayan Biswas. The spokesman, however, did not assign
any reason for dropping Mrs. Ghosh.
The four Cabinet Ministers, who were earlier dropped, were the
Labour Minister, Shanti Ghatak, the Small Scale and Cottage
Industries Minister, Mr. Pralay Talukdar, the Irrigation
Minister, Mr. Debabrata Bandyopadhyay and the Cooperation
Minister, Mr. Bhakti Bhusan Mondal.
The Front is yet to announce its candidates for two more seats.
