Saying it all with computers
IT WAS partying time for the families. Not the vibrating kind of celebrations filled with a lot of fun and frolic but with computers - the `Digital PC Party' brought to the city by Intel. The two-day extravaganza at the Sheshadri Hall in Tatabad attracted business crowd, families and the student community.
Placards pasted all over the hall screamed: "can a better computer really change your life". The crowd did get the positive answer. They discovered new ways of using an Intel Pentium Four processor-based computer. The students were educated on the easy way of creating greeting cards, downloading music, doodling snapshots, making movies and bringing boring textbooks to life.
"We are not here to sell our products to the public. We are here to educate the crowd on the use of computers and its friendly advantages," said K Goutham, Operations Executive of the exhibition. This is the sixth time in three years that Intel is holding a computer show in Coimbatore.
The people accepted that it was mainly to sharpen the educational skills of their children that they had visited the fare.
"No doubt, it was a useful exhibition. It was to strengthen my daughter's computer knowledge that I have come in. I wish every member had a computer at home instead of a television. We cannot force them into it, but we can give it a serious try," said R Ravichandran, a businessman.
R Parthiban of Asia Informations Systems had this to say: "The exhibition is more on entertainment clubbed with education. It's on computer awareness."
Apart from computer displays, the organisers had arranged a Power Point presentation for the benefit of the gathering. A good amount of crowd sat for hours together to get the best of computer usage. "The whole world is turning towards computers. At the primary level, the children are taught more about monitors. This is not enough.
" The computer classes here came in handy and were effective," stated Kirutika Gayathri, first year computer student of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science.
Intel also had fun contests coupled with attractive prizes. This made it all the more entertaining.
