Gingerbread time
THE FABLED gingerbread is here. Draped, dressed in its true fairy tale form; at La Patisserie, the gingerbread shop at the Taj Malabar, open for the season till January 1. It is full of goodies that will make your Xmas and New year, very sweet indeedTry out the yummy spread of chocolates and cookies put together by Pastry chef, Puneet Khanna and his team of expert bakers.
"We had to literally become architects to put together this shop made out of gingerbread tiles. Approximately we have used 400 tiles of gingerbread to make the doorway and the two walls. Then we have used royal icing to cement the gingerbricks," says Puneet who has put up a big spread for his first Xmas season in Kochi.
There are oven fresh cakes as in peanut marble cake, carrot and pineapple loaf, Dundee Cake and the all time favourite banana and walnut loaf, ranging from 250 to Rs. 350 a kilo.
There is a whole range of crispy, nutty cookies like triple chocolate fudge cookies (Rs.400 for a kilo) and the eponymous ginger bread cookies that cost rs.350 for a kilo.
And temptation comes in the form of the dark, enticing, rich, heady chocolates. The combinations are heavenly with cashew dregs dipped in bitter chocolates at Rs.1,000 a kilo, handmade dark chocolate cigars, dark chocolate almond clusters and white chocolate with lemon and mint truffle.
But the foodies's choice would definitely go to the dark chocolate with a strawberry soft centre. The gush of strawberry slush on the palate interlaced with smooth chocolate is one heavenly
Experience, richly deserved for a festive season.
And of course the regular Xmas menu of dark plum cake, mince pies, chocolate Yule log are there for all to savour . So what began with the cake mixing ceremony months ago has found fruition in the gingerbread shop and it is for all to taste and enjoy.
