EATING Tuck into desserts at The Residency's festival
|
The golden nest of spun sugar enveloping Hunter's Gateaux sets the mood for a festival dedicated to the sweet toothed. Delicately remove the decorative wrapping and you get a melt-in-the-mouth dessert .
The sweets, cakes and pastries lined up for the `Desserts festival', now on at The Pavilion, the 24-hour coffee shop of The Residency, not only make for a lip smacking spread but also look great.
The summer fruit gateaux is indeed a delight. The liberal quantities apple, peach, mango and pineapple that go into it make for a great offering.
The mash melon mousse is also good. Though quite a few familiar Indian sweets are available, the Arabian and Continental desserts make the difference in this fest. Fried Arabian sweets dunked in sugar syrup have you begging for more.
Bite into Arabic Busbusa, a brownish kesari of semolina, ghee, sugar, milk and almonds, and the rather hard Choux rings that taste like Badusha.
Continental specialties such as Melon Mousse (fresh melon, cream and eggs), Tarty Tartin (apple and caramel with golden syrup on flaky pastry base) and Pineapple Crumble Pie (cinnamon flavoured topping of pineapple on short crust pastry) are tongue-ticklers.
"Since it is summer, we are offering fruit-based, easy-to-digest desserts," says S. Ashok Kumar, Executive Chef.
You can choose from 20 varieties of Indian, Continental, Chinese and Arabian desserts on any day.
Also taste on-the-spot desserts that include ice cream dosa, chocolate paratha and piping hot apple jalebis. Three such offerings (Continental, Chinese and Indian) are given every day.
Oriental delights include fruit toffee, litchi pudding, tarzan noodles and Malaysian ice kachang.
You can savour scrumptious baked rasagollas and the Andhra special Chandrakala in the desi section. Kacchaloga sondesh, Ras bhog, Shrikhand and Poli are also available.
"Desserts are popular with kids. As the annual holidays have already begun, we decided to organise this fest in April," explains Ashok.
The festival is open for dinner on all days and for lunch and dinner on Sunday till April 17.
