Sari sale

Saris galore The exhibition offers a wide choice
The Ramanujam couple, V. Ramanujam and R. Geetha from Chennai are back to enchant sari lovers of Mangalore. Having made a foray into selling Kanchi pure silk, non-starch cotton, pure cotton, silk cotton, polycot sarees and salwar materials last year, the couple will pitch tent at Hotel Kediyur, Shiribeedu, Udupi, till Sunday.
Direct from weavers
Procuring directly from weavers, the couple operates with the simple philosophy of no overheads or intermediaries and with the express desire of passing on the cost benefit to the customers. The result is 40 per cent savings in costs for customers.
The stock includes wedding collections that are yet to be introduced in the market. The couple does not believe in engaging big halls or organising big exhibitions as all this adds to the overheads. They are however willing to hold similar private exhibitions for members of clubs or sabhas.
According to Mr. Ramanujam, the reason for this is twofold. "People have started understanding that inferior quality materials are exhibited along with good quality materials in bigger exhibitions. Besides, constant folding and unfolding of the saris will spoil their crispness and freshness, making them not so attractive to any prospective buyer."
Crisp and fresh
Another advantage of this kind of private exhibition, the couple claims, is that the products on sale are not handled by other people, opened or exhibited on walls, exposing them to elements. So the saris remain crist and fresh.
Those interested can check out the sale at Hotel Kediyuru, Shiribeedu, Udupi, or call 0820-2523381/ 385 or 094440-43984.
