Pink Floyd

Wish You Were Here

There was never a shadow of doubt that Floyd would make it to my list of favourites. However, narrowing it down to one song seemed impossible. High Hopes and Comfortably Numb are equal contenders, but I chose this as my Floyd favourite. The starting solo which leads up to the rather poignant song is beautiful, to say the least. Like most of the album, this song was written by Roger Waters and composed by David Gilmour for ex-band member Syd Barrett who suffered from depression. The song is romantic, deep and even heart-rending. “We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year. Running over the same old ground…” It’s haunting actually.
