What it is about…

UTV Motion Pictures’ Mugamoodi, produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur, is written and directed by Mysskin. The main players are Jiiva, Pooja Hegde and Narain and the supporting cast comprises Nasser, Girish Karnad, Selvaah and Nithiashree Bhaskar. K has scored the music. Sathya is the cinematographer, and Gaugin, the editor. The audio of the film was released by actor Vijay and received by Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar. The story of Mugamoodi is about an ordinary man who is forced to become a superhero.

Music highlights

‘Vayamoodi Summa Iruda’ is a slow but foot-tapping number sung by Aalaap Raju. Written by Karky, it has an unconventional structure with three charanams and no interludes. ‘Lullaby for Loss’ is a theme song, starting with a guitar section and followed by a string and horn section. ‘Bar Anthem’ is a mass number, written and sung by the director himself — the violin interlude of Ilaiyaraja’s ‘Annakili’ song, fits into it well. ‘Blue Panther On The Prowl’ is another theme number with fast-paced electronic beats. The ‘Maayavi’ number, written by Karky, is rendered by Chinmayi. ‘Don’t Drive Your Car With This Music’ has a thumping rhythm section, along with acoustic guitars, trumpets and flutes. There is another version of ‘Vayamoodi Summa Iruda,’ where percussion instruments such as bongo and djembe dominate. ‘Cape Of Good Hope’ comes with synth sounds and processed electric guitars — the piece is heavily laden with string and horn sections. ‘Hell, Heaven And The Ladder’ is a short yet important piece, while ‘Come Let's Fall In Love’ is a piano version of ‘Vayamoodi Summa Iruda’. There is a flute version of ‘Maayavi,’ where Vishnu has blown life into the instrument.

What they say…

Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur: We are proud to associate with acclaimed filmmaker Mysskin on the first south Indian superhero subject Mugamoodi . The film has shaped up well and we are confident it will click with the masses.

Director Mysskin: I have portrayed the hero of the film as a normal human being. The film has comedy, romance and all the other entertaining elements. Both Jiiva and Narain have done a wonderful job. People, irrespective of their age, will fall in love with the hero who appears as a superhero in the second half. We are also considering a sequel to this film.

Hero Jiiva: When I agreed to do the film, I didn’t anticipate that it required quite a bit of effort. But I liked it and we felt great when we saw the final product. It is a big challenge for Mysskin, who had everything spelt out in his storyboard. I’m sure everybody will enjoy the movie, and kids, especially, will love it.

Music director K: I was glad when I was roped in for Mysskin’s Yudham Sei. I was on cloud nine, when he offered me Mugamoodi. The way he has conceived of the screenplay, the film is bound to be a hit. He has given me enough scope to prove my talent in re-recording. I have also done a couple of good theme numbers which I hope will be liked by music lovers. Both my movies, Mugamoodi and Arohanam, will hit the screens next month.
