Hyundai India to recall 2,437 Santa Fe SUVs

The "voluntarily recall" of 2,437 number of Santa Fe Vehicles in India is for units manufactured between the period June 26, 2011 and September 26, 2013.

Hyundai Motor India on Saturday said it would recall 2,437 units of its sports utility vehicle Santa Fe to replace the ‘stop lamp switch’.

“Hyundai Motor India Ltd has initiated a service campaign to voluntarily recall and replace the “Stop Lamp Switch” of Santa Fe (Model Year 2011) due to potential malfunction, at no cost to customer,” the company said in a statement.

It added that the “voluntarily recall” of 2,437 number of Santa Fe Vehicles in India is for units manufactured between the period June 26, 2011 and September 26, 2013.

The stop lamp switch is placed near the brake-pedal mechanism and activated when the pedal is depressed and released.

Owners of the involved vehicles will be notified in a phased manner to bring in their vehicles to authorised Hyundai dealers for replacing the part.

“Hyundai Motor India will deliver best service and attention to its customers with its strong service and support network across the country,” it added.

Car companies have been proactive in recalling vehicles in cases of safety issues since industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers initiated a voluntary recall policy in 2012.

Honda Cars India Ltd recalled 31,226 units of select variants of the Amaze compact sedan and Brio hatchback this month to inspect them for a possible brake system defect.

Last month, in one of the biggest vehicle recalls, Maruti Suzuki India recalled 1,03,311 units of its Ertiga, Swift and DZire models manufactured between November 12, 2013, and February 4, 2014, to replace a faulty fuel filler neck.

Earlier, Toyota Kirloskar Motor recalled 44,989 units of multi—purpose vehicle Innova manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008 in India to rectify a faulty cable on the steering wheel.

The move was part of a global recall of 6.39 million vehicles announced by Japanese parent Toyota Motor Corp, the world’s biggest car manufacturer.

General Motors India last year recalled 1.14 lakh units of its multipurpose vehicle Chevrolet Tavera manufactured between 2005 and 2013 to address emissions and specification issues. It is the biggest recall in India till date.
