Kingfisher staff harden stance

The employees of grounded Kingfisher Airlines have intensified efforts to recover their unpaid salaries.

In a multi-pronged strategy, the employees who have not been paid for the last 17 months have started an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and have filed criminal complaint with the Parliament Street police station seeking the registration of an FIR against the airline’s promoter among others. The employees have written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) seeking intervention, have approached trade unions and among others have approached the Aam Admi Party to mediate.

“We have filed a complaint with the police stating that we have been driven to such state due to repeated failure of the management to keep its promise and mitigate our suffering,” Anjan Kumar Deveshwar, an employee, told

The Hindu over phone. “Most of us tried our best to get jobs outside and move on. But jobs are not available. It is really tough time to manage the families. We have sold all our gold and exhausted all means of borrowing from friends and relatives,” said G. C. Ratha, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Kingfisher Airlines.

Meanwhile, Kingfisher management has urged the employees to end the strike.
