Tata Consultancy Services, on Thursday, announced that the company planned to add 50,000 persons to its workforce in the current year.
Ajoy Mukherjee, Executive Vice-President and Global Head, Human Resources, TCS, said the company planned to recruit 25,000 persons from campuses of educational institutions. The remainder would be ‘lateral recruits’, he said.
Mr. Mukherjee said the company plans to recruit 25,000 students from campuses in 2014, but refused to provide an estimate of planned overall recruitment next year.
Ongoing process
He said the ongoing recruitment process for the current year would be completed by January or February. TCS at present has a headcount of more than 2.85 lakhs, nearly one-third of its workforce are women.
Mr. Mukherjee said the recruitment pool from campuses was mainly from about 300 of the 450 institutions with which it was ‘accredited’. He said the company’s ‘recruitment portal’ ensured that the entire process was online. Referring to the several cases of ‘fake offer letters,’ he said, “the system even verifies the authenticity of offer letters.”
Pointing out that the number of doctorates produced in India was much lower than in China, Mr. Mukherjee said TCS was sponsoring 40 doctoral candidates every year for the next five years.
