An unusual question
The exams were nearing and I had promised my dad that I would do my best. I studied hard for it.
On the day of the exam, I was nervous. When I received the question paper, I saw that it was easy. I answered all the questions, except the last one.
It was different from the other questions. It read : What is the name of the person who works in your house? It carried five marks! I thought it was not an important question, so I skipped it. None of my friends answered it as well.
After the exam, I asked my teacher, “Sir, the paper was easy but the last question was different. Was it important?”
My teacher replied, “Yes, it’s an important question. You children talk to your friends and family members, but have you once spoken to the maid who works in your house or at school?”
“I smile at them but I have not spoken to them,” I replied.
“They do so much work for you. The next time you see them, just wish them ‘Good morning’, or say ‘Hello’ or ‘Goodbye’, that way they will also feel respected,” my teacher said. “Now, do you understand how important the question was?”
That day I realised that everybody around us is working for us and that we should respect them; this shows our true character.
