The student community makes up 40% of Ladakh’s total population, and a university here has been its long cherished dream. Previously, there were only two degree colleges in Ladakh. Students were suffering because of lack of facilities. Now, they will be able to complete their undergraduate courses on time — three years — which they used to complete in five years, due to insufficient faculty. This will lead to more choices of courses, and further help increase job opportunities.

The government has achieved a milestone by launching the first ever cluster university in Ladakh. This move will revolutionise higher education in the region. Furthermore, students will not need to travel to Jammu and Kashmir or other regions to pursue their higher education. Absenteeism of students and teachers will also reduce, and it will help improve the literacy rate of the Ladakh region, as education will now be provided at its doorstep.
