Pataliputra is one of the 40 Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar. Bordered by Patna, Chapra, Arrah and Jehanabad, Pataliputra has six Assembly seats – Danapur, Phulwari (Sc), Bikram, Maner, Masaurhi (Sc), Paliganj. Of the population of 16.5 lakhs, 13.1% belong to Scheduled Castes (SC) and 0.1% to Scheduled Tribes (ST). The district was carved out of the Patna in 2009. Known as the ancient capital of the Magadh empire, Pataliputra is known for the famous Vishwa Shanti Stupa. Pataliputra is a Janata Dal stronghold which now votes for Bharatiya Janata Party. The incumbent MP is RJD-turned-BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav.
