BJP loses Manjeswaram with slender 89 votes

Dashing its long-chierished dream to make an entry into the State Assembly from northern border constituency of Manjeswaram, BJP nominee and party state General Secretary K. Surendran lost the segment with a slender margin of 89 votes to IUML’s P.B. Abdul Razak.

Mr. Abdul Razak received 56,870 votes while Mr. Surendran polled 56,781 votes. CPI-M’s C.H. Kunhambu went to the third spot garnering 42,565 votes.

However, BJP nominee's namesake K. Surendran has received 467 votes giving a rude shock to the the saffron party.

The authorities have decided to go for recounting of votes in Manjeswaram assembly segment after the BJP, which the elections with a slender 89 votes, made a formal request to the authorities.

The recounting has begun at 12.30 pm, sources said.
