You know Navaratri is round the corner when colourful kolu dolls take over city pavements, shelves of small shops and exhibition venues. Every year, the makers of these dolls, amaze you with their creativity and diverse themes. Not just mythology, even social and political issues find their way into this craft. The ‘Kolu Display’ at Sri Sankara Hall fascinates with its range. They have been sourced from across the country. Vegetable vendor, priests, Krishna Leela, Shiva-Parvati, Shakuntala reminiscent of a Ravi Varma painting, Gitopadesa scene, marriage tableaux, Dasavatar and more are on display. Sukalyan Ganguly, an expert in making these dolls, talks about the significance of fine detailing and colour combinations. The exhibtion is on till October 2.
