Enga Pappa is a film that became famous for its unusual storyline. Written by Dada Mirasi, with dialogues by Ma.Ra, the film was produced by BR Panthulu under his banner Padmini Pictures.
The story revolves around a child named Mangalam (Baby Shakila) who is treated by people around her as a harbinger of bad luck. Her parents die at an early age and she is brought by her aunt (MV Rajamma). She has a brother (played by Master Sridhar) and he treats her with a lot of affection. The three of them relocate to a city and Mangalam’s brother (now played by Ravichandran) pursues higher education and finds a job too.
He lands this job with the help of a friend (OAK Thevar) and his daughter (Kumari Bharathi) who falls in love with him. They get married but problems arise as his wife isn’t pleased with his affection for Mangalam. She doesn’t like her husband treating his sister like a child.

Later on, Mangalam manges to avert a train accident and she is given an award for her bravery. The award proves that she can bring good luck and the family reunites.
The portrayal of Mangalam’s character was well-received by the audiences.

Music was composed by MS Viswanathan, with lyrics by Kavignar Kannadasan, and sung off screen by TM Soundararajan, Sirgazhi Govindarajan, P Susheela, LR Easwari and MS Rajeshwari. ‘Naan Pottal Theriyum’, a song from the film, became a hit. Cinematography was handled by V Ramamurthy and R Devarajan edited the film. Audiography was by TN Rangaswami and choreography was by Thangappan. The film was shot at Vauhini Studios.
The film had a successful run, thanks to the script and excellent direction.
