'Udta Punjab' is not banned, clarifies Anurag Kashyap

The decision of the film’s certification has been deferred to a revising committee at the Censor Board of Film Certification.

Take a deep breath and calm down. The Shahid-Kareena-Alia starrer 'Udta Punjab' has not been banned.

Rather, the decision of the film’s certification has been deferred to a revising committee at the Censor Board of Film Certification, according to an official statement from Balaji Motion Pictures, one of the production houses for 'Udta Punjab'.

Aman Gill, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures LTD shares, "To set the record straight, Udta Punjab has not been banned. The examining committee has deferred the decision to the Revising committee and the due process is on."

Producer-director Anurag Kashyap, whose Phantom Films is the other production house involved with the film, also tweeted the same.

He also went on to add that said due process would take time and that the film was definitely not banned.

A film is banned only when examining, revising and FCAT all three refuse certificate . And then you fight it out in Supreme Court

And due process takes it own time so please abstain for spreading a BAN rumour. There is nothing to speak on the subject as of now.

The confusion arose when reports emerged late on Thursday stating that the film had been banned by the CBFC due to excessive use of swearing and depictions of drug abuse in the film.

Several media reports also stated that the CBFC had demanded 40 cuts to the film, including that of a song and a scene involving a character consuming drugs. I&B Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has also reportedly been approached for a quick clearance of the movie.
