Venghai (U/A)
Genre: Action
Cast: Dhanush, Tamannaah, Raj Kiran, Prakash Raj
ADVERTISEMENT
Storyline: A man, whom the people of his village worship and others wish to kill, an MLA, who can be obsequious and murderous at once, a heroine, who is simple and scheming (of course, she has a reason) and the yarn of love, affection and knavery spun around them.
Ups: That Tamannaah doesn't have any other Tamil project after Venghai shouldn't be true! The heroine looks gorgeous, emotes well and deserves to rule for a few more years.
Villain, don or henchman, dad, husband or village head, actor Raj Kiran exudes dignity.

Dhanush as the angry young man is just another cliché. Can't fault his sincerity though!
Viveka's lyric, Devi Sriprasad's tune and Karthik's scintillating voice make ‘Kaalankaarthala' a hum-worthy melody.
Downs: Quite a few! In film after film Prakash Raj plays the loud, predictable, villain, challenging the hero only to bite the dust in the climax — ditto here.
Director Hari's brand of action generally has a strong strand of intelligence running through the warp and weft of the line. Strangely, he displays less astuteness in Venghai .
Hari's stories have a singularly racy screenplay, but not so this time.
So many people fall a prey to the sickle that you lose count.
Kanja Karuppu's comedy track is unpardonably crass and his body language touches the nadir of depravity. Can such innuendos really tickle?
The three-duet syndrome affects the pace no end. Probably for the first time in his career that includes nearly 10 hits, the fizz in Hari's narration is missing.
Bottomline: Venghai is not a patch on Vikram's Sami , Suriya's Singam or even Sarathkumar's Ayya .
