Honey Rose Varghese (a.k.a. Dhwani) is on a high. The actor who started her career in movies with Vinayan’s Boy Friend has finally ‘arrived’ in tinsel town with V.K. Prakash’s (VKP) Trivandrum Lodge .
Says Honey: “Although I am picky about the kind of roles I do, only one or two have translated well on screen. Dhwani, my character in Trivandrum Lodge , has given me a new innings in Mollywood. It was VKP who rechristened me Dhwani. He felt I needed a fresh break and hence a new name.”
Honey admits she was nervous playing the bold Dhwani. “I’m a quiet homebody who enjoys cooking, stitching, watching television… whereas Dhwani is a more outgoing person. She is a divorcee who returns to Kerala to write a book. Her marriage was an extremely confining period in her life and now that she is divorced, she wants to live life on her own terms.”
The shoot for Trivandrum Lodge , was fun. This maiden with curly locks, straightened her hair when she entered the film industry. However, for the VKP movie, she had to curl it. “While make-up took just a couple of minutes, I had to spend two to three hours on my hair. In the movie, there is a shot of me with Abdu (Jayasurya) with a shawl around my head. The reason my head is covered is that only half my hair was done in curls,” she laughs.
The actor says it is now a good age for a woman to be into movies in Mollywood. “Scriptwriters are coming up with fresh narratives and the audience is open to new tales and style of narration. Women are given meatier roles too,” says the actor who had ‘starry’ aspirations as a child. “My childhood dream was to become an actor. When I approached Vinayan sir for a role in Boy Friend , I was a tad nervous as I had no experience whatsoever in front of the camera or on stage. After my first shot for the movie, I knew cinema is where I was meant to be.”
Although Honey admits she cringes when she sees certain scenes of her from her old movies, she goes on to add that she feels her acting prowess has evolved “over the movies.” Trivandrum Lodge
The actor who hails from Thodupuzha is currently busy with a Tamil movie Mallukattu , which stars Kollywood actor Dhanush’s cousin Varun. The shoot for the film is on at Theni. “I play a bubbly village belle called Amudha. She is vain and is extremely beauty conscious. Her character lends the movie a touch of humour. The movie should be out in theatres by January.” Shoot for Aji John’s Pushpaka Vimanam , in which Honey has a role, starts in December. “I play an actress in Pushpaka Vimanam. My character is shooting for a film in which Anoop Menon is an actor,” says the actor signing off.
