Sri Ramanuja’s philosophy and his contribution to Sanathana dharma have come into focus with the run-up to his millennium being celebrated across the country. Scholars have authored books tracing his life and interpreting his hymns sung in praise of various deities. But those are for adults, with or without initiation into Ramanuja’s principles.

V. Narasimhan of Karivaradan Kainkarya Sabha of Srirangam has thought of telling the younger generation, children in particular, the great role the preceptor played in illuminating the path of devotion. The early years of Ramanuja, his tutelage under various acharyas, the famous episodes associated with his life have all been narrated in simple language with illustrations.

The low-priced slim volumes in Tamil and English (there is one in Sanskrit too) adopt a friendly tone that is sure to appeal to the modern youth. At the same time even a seasoned reader, who wants a quick introduction to Ramanuja, can benefit from the lucid way in which the author touches the milestones. Illustrations and maps spice up the reading experience. The cache includes an interesting ‘Potri’ that hails his sterling qualities.

V. Narasimhan, also the hereditary trustee of Vellai Saathiya Ramanujar Sendra Paadhaiyil Ulla Karivaradaraja Perumal temple, Kanakampalayam, near Kallipatti, Erode district.
