For Saint-poet Mirabai, Lord Krishna was her universe. Her unparalleled love for her Lord, her playmate, her mentor, her guru… His flawless beauty, kindness… to her et all was brought to life by Carnatic vocalist Bombay Jayashri on Sunday through carefully chosen bhajans of Mira at 'Bhaire Baanvari', a fund-raiser musical presentation for Sankalp Trust.
She began with a prayer song by Mirabai's guru Raidas Kamala lochana Kati Peethambara . In the song More aangan mein murali bhajaavore , Mira, the child, asks her friend to play the flute and play with her. The bhajan, Maana Guru Govind , was a dialogue between Mirabai and her mother-in-law, who asked her to pray to Gowri, the deity of the Sisodiya clan to which Mira is said to have replied that only Krishna was her Lord.
Gowri Ramnarayan, who conceptualised the presentation explained how as a child Mirabai treated an idol of Krishna not as a toy but as a living-breathing friend and how she met her guru.
Sankalp Trust runs two schools, The Open School and The Learning Centre, which are for children with learning disabilities and autism respectively.
Founder Trustee of Sankalp Mullasari Ajit said the funds from the programme would go towards more equipment and may be a building of their own. “We are on leased premises right now. We would like to develop our infrastructure. We are thankful to all the corporates and individuals who supported us,” he said.
