Lighting up the world

Published - July 21, 2016 01:33 pm IST

The water slapped the rocks mercilessly

Waves roared as they beat the sand,

Lightning flashed and fought back the

booming thunder,

Trees shivered in fear as their terrified leaves

Fell to the ground, cowering from the fury.

The moon hid behind the dark clouds

Ashamed to show his imperfections,

As the stars twinkled softly

Lulling him to sleep.

Suddenly, the water went back its way

The sand stopped crying and smiled boldly.

The moon slunk away gratefully,

As the stars stepped back

Allowing him to pass,

The trees stood calm and still,

And this time,

The leaves fell to the ground

Bowing to him in reverence.

He slowly rose from behind the mountains,

Who shrank so he could soar into the sky.

The dark clouds vanished and left behind

Soft, cottony white clouds

That bounced back and forth.

The sun shone at the bowing leaves

He glowed at the bold sand

He beamed at the mountains, trees and

the water

And finally took his place among the clouds.

He rode his chariot around the world

Making sure everyone got light and warmth,

And most importantly, his smile.
