Rajesh Joshi, popularly known as Raju Bhai, is a writer 24x7. He had better be. After all, the chartered accountant-turned-Gujarati-theatre-director-turned-Hindi soap script writer is penning four serials at the same time. Pavitra Rishta , Shor , Bandini and Sanskaar Laxmi are four serials penned by Joshi that are currently on air. In all of these, Joshi claims to uphold the middle class values and aims to bring families together to watch television shows. “These days Indians, especially the Indian youth is getting influenced by the West and forgetting the rich Indian traditions and culture. I try to remind them of the rich values of our culture,” says the writer.
It all started for Joshi about a decade ago when he scripted Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi , a series which paved the way for a host of other saas-bahu sagas to hit the small screen. Then came Kasauti Zindagi Ke , another mega hit churned out by Joshi.
Explaining his brilliant pace, he says, “I am thinking all the time. I use experiences of real life to write about my characters. For instance, I can use this conversation also to project one of the characters in a show. I do not allow stories to get mixed up in my mind. I carry them in separate compartments of my mind.”
With the recently launched Sanskaar Laxmi on Zee TV, Joshi has also turned producer. “It is a story of how a simple uneducated young girl comes to a big city like Mumbai from a small village of Gujarat and changes the lives of the family she marries into by her virtues. That instils a sense of pride in being traditional despite having a modern outlook,” Joshi reveals. Right now, Joshi has the story of nearly 200 episodes ready. With an experience of more than 4000 episodes on television, he is confident about his new offering. Joshi has an able team of assistants who help him flesh out the final details of the characters. And of course, this son of great theatre personality Mansukh Joshi, who co-founded the Indian National Theatre, also gets able guidance from the veteran.
