Sultan, the hair apparent

Yet again Salman Khan inspires neighbourhood style icons with his ‘Sultan’ styling.

When bhai ki picture lagti hai , it is not just the queue for tickets. There is another place where people line up — the nearest salon! So with the release of Sultan last week, it will be wrong to assume that many young men are queuing up to get enrolled in the wrestling ring. The friendly neighbourhood barber is also suddenly in demand.

Look around and you notice young men and boys sporting a new look with their hair, a moustache and beard. For the men it is the close to the skin crop on either side, the moustache is getting a twirl at the end and the beard is just about there.

Men who don’t dare to take the risk with their own hair, are subjecting their little sons to the close-crop. The easiest places to spot this trend in hair and beard are the movie theatres and gyms.

‘Salman Khan in and as Sultan’ however didn’t have much to offer in terms of his dressing in the movie. However, if a true fan really wants to dress up the way

bhai did post his onscreen ‘world wrestling championship’ the easiest thing to do is just get some training jackets with ‘India’ written on it.

It is not just Salman who had the close crop look in Sultan , Amit Sadh who plays one of the most crucial roles in the movie has a more prominent closer-to-skin crop.

Andaaz Apna Apna, was a rage. The other things that became a rage owing to Salman Khan is the towel dance steps and tight denim shorts.

Hair stylist Vikas is of opinion that his Sultan look, unlike his Tere naam hair style is much doable.

“One doesn’t have to worry about anything because the sides will grow back in no time. All one needs is a trimmer and a steady hand. As far as twirling the ends of the moustache is concerned, the moment one stops twirling them they will be back to normal,” he says.

Siddharth Reddy, an engineering student who got the hair cut the day the movie was released says, “As long as my hair is short I am not in trouble at home. I did the cropping on my own with an electric trimmer. It’s temporary; I don’t have the bare look on the sides anymore.”
