There’s something about a Rajinikanth film audio launch that’s really special. It’s almost like watching his film on screen. Just that here you don’t see a dashing young man in dapper suits and jeans strutting along. You see the real Rajini. Much older than his on-screen avatar, but the stride in his walk is still intact.
Lingaa, the audio of which was launched on Sunday, wasn’t much different. With crowds making a beeline to the venue hours before the event, it was a Rajinikanth show all the way. With the inspiring 'Indiane Vaa' song being played in the background, fans went berserk at the ‘darshan’ of their favourite actor.
And he didn’t disappoint. “My fans have been waiting for long to see me on screen. My last few films had taken quite a while and I wanted to finish this movie quickly,” recalled the Superstar. But it wasn’t an easy task – considering the starry names they had roped in and the locations they had to shoot in.
Music composer A.R. Rahman was absent but more than made up for it with the detailed AV interview. “I had a lot of commitments when Lingaa came,” he said, “But, I’m a huge Rajinikanth fan and I had to do it.”
Apart from speeches from celebrities, the launch also had its share of emotional moments with director K.S. Ravikumar recalling a touching incident on the set. The album, written by Vairamuthu and Karky, sees S.P. Balasubramaniam crooning the customary introduction song of Rajinikanth (‘Oh Nanba’) and also features other singers like Srinivas, Mano and Haricharan. Eros International’s Lingaa, likely to release on December 12 on Rajinikanth’s birthday, has been produced by Rockline Venkatesh and stars Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka in lead roles.
