Chitrangada Singh is enjoying her status as the most sought-after actor — not just in the movies, but also on the small screen. That's after her move to mainstream cinema! She acknowledges that offers have increased.
“I'd say the movies I love doing are ‘popular' cinema unlike what people say about this being commercial and the other being arthouse or parallel. I'd like to do work with any popular medium, and TV offers have been coming my way too,” says the actor, who is playing the catalyst — on UTV Stars' show “Superstar Santa” — between two cousins who are not on talking terms.
Substantial role
“The offer to play Santa came out of the blue. I did get a couple of offers from UTV Stars earlier, but they were more about me as a celebrity — what I ate, how I partied, and when I slept! I wanted something more substantial. This one is about helping people with a problem and reconciling relationships. I immediately agreed,” she says. So, this star got them to meet up, and that was the happy ending to the story.
Besides this rare TV appearance, the actor wears her star status lightly. “Star or no star, what matters to me is I enjoy what I do. That's what is happening now. Popular cinema is up my alley. And believe me, you will see quite a few surprises from me now!” she says. Chitrangada has her kitty full this season with “I Me Aur Main” with John Abraham and Sudhir Mishra's “Inkaar” with Arjun Rampal. She is also doing a sizzling item number (‘Kaafiraana…') choreographed by Farah Khan for Shirish Kunder's “Joker”.
The only regret she has is (no, not walking out of Rakesh Roshan's “Krrish 2” where she had bagged the role of a mutant!) having to refuse Kamal Haasan's “Vishwaroopam”. “I had already made a commitment to Sudhir, and this project got pushed by 20 days. I'm very sad I had to say no, but it couldn't be helped,” she says.
