Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Aaranya Kaandam has added another feather to its cap. The film, a gangster flick, has won the audience award at the London Indian Film Festival.
Commenting on the honour, the film’s producer S. P. Charan said, “I feel humbled and delighted at the honour though I wish the film had done well in theatres here and that audiences here had liked it as much as those in the U.S. and the U.K.”

The film, which was cleared for release by the Censor Board only after almost 62 cuts were effected, is likely to participate in two other international festivals.
Says Charan: “ Aaranya Kaandam will feature in the Copenhagen Film Festival and the East End Film Festival in London.” He also says they are open to the idea of remaking it in another language. “If we choose to remake it, it will be in Hindi.”

Looks like actor Shriya Saran, who expressed a desire to play the Good Samaritan by sponsoring the footwear of two poor Indian athletes participating in the Olympics this year, will have to wait for another opportunity to help those in need.
Shriya, after reading about the sad plight of two jawans who did not even have shoes, recently tweeted, “Read that runners representing India don't even have running shoes. Would love to gift them. Can you guys help me find them?”
When asked if she had been able to locate the jawans, Shriya said, “Before I could trace them, a popular sports brand offered to sponsor their shoes. I would have loved to help them. But now, it looks like I will have to wait for my turn to help.”
A grand start
Nimirnthu Nil , director Samudirakani’s next film featuring Jayam Ravi, got off to a grand start on Thursday.
The pooja at the AVM Rajeswari theatre was attended by celebrities who wished the team success.
Talking to the press, Jayam Ravi said, “This will be a full-fledged entertainer. I was convinced about the storyline and the way the script evolved.”
The film, which will feature Amala Paul and Meghana Raj in the lead, will simultaneously be made in Telugu and will have music by G. V. Prakash. Nani of Veppam fame will play Ravi’s role in Telugu.
