Stretching out to happiness

“I believe that beauty is not superficial. It lies within a person and is reflected out to the world by one’s kindness”, says Jaya Mahesh. Coimbatore’s Mahesh was recently adjudged the third runner up at Mrs Globe Classic event in California. She also bagged the Mrs. Photogenic crown!

This international event had 85 candidates, all over the age of 45 years participating and they came from across the globe.

While Mahesh is not new to beauty pageants (She was Mrs. Coimbatore in 2006 and Mrs. India in 2016), she is a favourite with many women who swear she has helped them get fitter and feel better about themselves. Mahesh is a fitness therapist and runs Jaya Mahesh Body Sculpting Therapy in the city.

It was something that she went through in her life that launched her into the fitness world. “After the birth of my child in 1994, my weight went from 58 to 118 kgs. I became almost blind too. My journey towards fitness started there”, she says. Mahesh looks much younger than her years. She is 49 years old, she says.

She watches what she eats and works out regularly. “Fitness is a part of my life. But the most important thing is to be happy and stay away from negative people.”

Mrs Globe Classic had four rounds, and Mahesh said she chose to wear a sari for the first. “That made me stand out from the rest of the contestants. It was a proud moment for me.” It was not just the accolades she won that has made this oputing special she says. The other takeaways from it are a leap in her self confidence. “For the first time, I travelled such long distances alone. I also had the opportunity to meet a number of strong and beautiful women. The experience and exposure I got there was incredible.” What next? Mahesh says she does not work to any plan. “I take life as it comes. All that I want is to be happy and spread my happiness to the rest of the world.”
