: It is going to be an exciting evening. Madurai isall set to be entertained by playback singer S P Balasubrahmanyam, who is back in the city with a concert in less than 18months. The city has been lucky to have hosted the legendary singer several times, but what makes tonight's show special is his coming together with poet-lyricist Vairamuthu after 12 years.

The last time they were in live concert together was in Chennai over a decade ago. “This is going to be their second joint performance and it is nothing less than historic," says Mouna Raagam Murali in between rehearsals on phone from Chennai.

The musical extravaganza, Isaiyum Tamizhum will be with Chennai-based Mouna Raagam orchestra that comes with a big team of technicians and musicians. With tracks from the swinging sixties to contemporary music, the repertoire is slated to be vast. The event organised by Sai Shakthi Maharajan, will have Director Vasanthan as the chief guest. His presence will add significance as his first independent and critically acclaimed 1990 film, Keladi Kanmani, starred SPB.

SPB is expected to sing a range of songs penned by Vairamuthu. The seven time national award winner, poet Vairamuthu turned lyricist for P Bharathiraja's 1980 film Nizhalga and his first song " Pon Maalai Pozhuthu ", was sung by SPB.

With an association of decades behind them that produced innumerable hits, the evening is set to run high on nostalgia.

"We are happy to present an evening of music with the two legends," says Murali whose accompanying team consists of singers Ramya Nandakumar, Sujatha Venkataraman, Pavithra Gopi, Sharanya Srinivasan, Balaji, Venkatesh and Ilankumaran.

The others include lead guitarist Ramesh, flautist Elavarasu along with Immanuel and David on keys, Gerald Martin on bass guitar, Viji on trumpet, Jaichaa on special effects, Rafique on triple and bangoos, Nagraj on rhythm pads, Anbu on acoustics drums, Kiran and Nathan on tabla.

"Each time SPB is in town, he takes you back on a nostalgia trip,” says Karthick Sundaresan, who has attended more than half-a-dozen SPB nights in the city.

With over 40,000 songs in 16 languages in SPB's kitty, there is much to look forward to the evening’s treat.
