Built alongside one of Hyderabad’s most potent landmarks, the Tank Bund, Necklace Road is one of the city’s most popular hangout spaces for people from all walks of life. Be it students, families or nature enthusiasts there is something for everyone which cements its place as one of the city’s most popular hangout destinations.
The boulevard was originally designed to cut traffic passing by on Tank Bund and to open an alternate route to Secunderabad and gets its name from the famous Necklace Road in Mumbai’s Marine Drive. Seen aerially, the stretch of road resembles a necklace and hence its name. Spread across three kilometres, what makes the place popular is the bountiful presence of greenery, vast stretches of parks (with play area for kids) and the best views of Hussainsagar. It also helps that it is located centrally with lots of options to indulge in some great food ranging from delicious street grub to fine dining options.
The recreational area of People’s plaza is choc a bloc all through the year, hosting everything from horticulture exhibitions and concerts to political rallies and book fairs. Eat Street is the fast food court which at given point of time is thronging with crowds unwinding over food and conversation, the pitiful condition of Tank Bund (and its accompanying stench) notwithstanding. Necklace road is also a popular destination for city’s hobby enthusiasts. Most mornings one sees budding photographers armed with their SLRs eager to capture scenic views on their lens. The reasonably good condition of roads and manageable traffic in the mornings has ensured that it is a favourite with cyclists, especially after a biking station opened up at the MMTS station. The Sanjeeviah Park, Yogi Bear Park, Jalvihar (ideal venue for smaller events) and PV Ghat (a memorial to the late Prime Minister, PV Narasimha Rao) are added attractions in the area. Sanjeeviah Park especially provides a tranquil getaway right in the midst of the city. Its rose garden along with incredible rock sculptures captivate visitors. With a playground for children, lush landscaped precincts and a dedicated walking track, it is a haven for those wanting a respite from the madding crowds.
The dog park is ideal for pet lovers who meet every morning with their furry friends and socialise with like-minded people. The street art especially the one next to the MMTS stations is a popular selfie spot which jazzes up the entire drive. With its multifarious options, it is little wonder that Necklace Road holds its own amongst the many options that Hyderabad offers today!
