Lorries to stay off roads

All the about 3.5 lakh lorries will not be operated in Tamil Nadu from dawn-to- dusk on Friday (January 20) in support of jallikattu.

M.R. Kumarasamy, president of the State Lorry Owners Federation – Tamil Nadu, told presspersons here on Thursday that the lorries will not be operated in any part of the State from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Instructions have already been passed on to the lorry crews to park the vehicles safely wherever they were and not to operate them throughout the day.

Mr. Kumarasamy urged both the Central and the State government to take effective steps for solving the present imbroglio by allowing the holding of jallikattu.

The lorry owners will be suffering a loss to the tune of Rs. 200 crore due to the non-operation of lorries for a day. The trade and industry will suffer a loss of Rs. 1,500 crore, he added.

Poultry farmers to

support bandh

Staff Reporter adds from NAMAKKAL: Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers Association has extended support to the dawn-to-dusk bandh in support of jallikattu on Friday.

Addressing mediapersons, its president A.K.P. Chinraj said that about 3.5 crore eggs are produced in the district everyday of which three crore are distributed to other districts and other States. “Eggs will not be taken for sale on Friday in support of jallikattu,” he added.
