Agitations by students and activists seeking legislation to revive jallikattu gained strength on the second consecutive day near the Corporation office here on Thursday.
Rendering support to the common cause, people in groups have commenced separate agitations at various parts of the city and its hinterland too.
On Thursday, residents of Mannarai observed a fast with black flags hoisted in the area.

“We raised the black flags to condemn the curbs continuing on the conduct of cattle-oriented traditional sports such as jallikattu and rekla races. The government machinery should take steps to bring necessary legislation to ensure that traditional sports could be organised without any hindrance,” the agitators said.
Members of Tamil Nadu Vishwa Hindu Parishad staged an agitation at Thirumuruganpoondi.
Students Federation of India district secretary R. Vimal told reporters that the main agitation by students and activists near the Corporation office would be carried forward non-stop.

A police constable on bandobust duty suffered minor injuries when a stray bull went berserk near the jallikattu protest venue.

Hundreds of college students staged a protest outside the Government Arts College in Udhagamandalam on Thursday, demanding that the ban on jallikattu be lifted. The students raised slogans against animal welfare organisations and said that the sport was part of the very fabric of Tamil culture. They were joined in their protests by students from other colleges.
