Five arrested for plot to kill leaders of Hindu outfits

Five persons who were taken into custody on charges of hatching a conspiracy to murder Hindu Munnani leader Arjun Sampath and and Sakthi Sena leader Anbu Mari on Saturday, were arrested by the Special Investigation Unit of the Coimbatore police on Sunday.

According to the police, R. Ashik (25) of N.H. Road in Coimbatore, I. Jafar Sadiq Ali (29) of Vyasarpadi in Chennai, S. Ismail (25) of Tindivanam, S. Samsudeen (20) of Pallavaram, and S. Shalavuddin (25) of Ottery in Chennai were detained by the sleuths of Special Intelligence Unit at Coimbatore railway junction on Saturday afternoon when they arrived from Chennai in Alapuzha Express.

After interrogating them for over 24 hours, they were arrested and produced before Fast Track Court I and on the orders of the judge, were remanded in judicial custody till September 4.

The Variety Hall Police have registered a case under sections 143, 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 15, 16, 18, 20 and 38 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967.

A motorcycle, five machets (aruval) and mobile phones were also seized from them.
