The Kurumbapatti Zoological Park here received three species of birds on Saturday.

District Collector S.A.Raman along with District Forest Officer A.Periasamy and other Forest officials released the Painted Stork, Grey Heron and Grey Pelican, three each, into their enclosure.

According to Forest officials, the birds - two female and one male of each species- were brought from Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur. A pond and a few trees have been set up inside the enclosure for the birds.

Stone carvings

As part of the Forest Department’s efforts to improve the ambience of the park, figures of animals that on the verge of extinction are carved on eight-ft-high granite stone pillars and installed at various places in the park. The carvings were done by Puducherry-based Universal Eco Foundation.
